Overview

TrendHR is recruiting for a Senior Superintendent on behalf of a Top 25 ENR General Contractor with a strong national presence in Healthcare Construction. This role will focus heavily on complex hospital, healthcare, medical office, surgical, and clinical construction projects ranging from occupied renovations and phased expansions to large-scale ground-up healthcare facilities.

The Senior Superintendent will lead all onsite construction operations while ensuring patient safety, infection control compliance, schedule execution, quality standards, and operational coordination within active healthcare environments. This role requires a strong leader with deep experience managing complex healthcare projects where safety, communication, logistics, and minimal disruption to ongoing medical operations are critical.


Position Overview

The Senior Superintendent serves as the primary onsite leader responsible for managing all field operations, subcontractor coordination, safety initiatives, scheduling, and quality execution throughout the lifecycle of healthcare construction projects.

This individual will work closely with project management teams, hospital administrators, facility personnel, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors to successfully deliver projects in highly regulated and operational healthcare environments.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience managing hospital and healthcare construction projects including occupied renovations, surgical suite upgrades, imaging centers, patient towers, MOBs, laboratories, and critical care environments.


Key Responsibilities

1. Healthcare Safety & Infection Control Leadership

  • Promote safety and patient protection as the highest priorities on all healthcare projects
  • Enforce all company safety standards, OSHA regulations, hospital protocols, and site-specific healthcare compliance requirements
  • Manage and enforce Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) procedures and Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM)
  • Coordinate containment systems, dust control, negative air environments, noise mitigation, and infection prevention procedures
  • Ensure all work activities minimize disruption to ongoing patient care and hospital operations
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, site audits, and corrective action implementation

2. Healthcare Project & Field Operations Management

  • Lead all day-to-day field operations for hospital, healthcare, clinic, and medical facility construction projects
  • Coordinate onsite activities in occupied healthcare environments with minimal interruption to staff, patients, and critical hospital systems
  • Develop and execute detailed production plans aligned with project schedules, budgets, and operational constraints
  • Supervise field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and trade coordination activities
  • Manage complex phased renovations, shutdowns, utility tie-ins, and after-hours construction activities
  • Collaborate closely with hospital facility teams, infection prevention personnel, and clinical stakeholders throughout construction
  • Maintain and update project schedules including milestone tracking and short-interval planning

3. Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare daily reports, schedule updates, progress reports, compliance logs, inspection documentation, and healthcare-specific reporting requirements
  • Maintain accurate records related to ICRA, ILSM, inspections, shutdowns, and regulatory compliance
  • Assist Project Management with project status reporting, forecasting, and owner communications
  • Ensure all field documentation is complete, accurate, and aligned with project and healthcare compliance standards

4. Plans, Drawings & Technical Coordination

  • Review construction documents, shop drawings, RFIs, specifications, and healthcare compliance requirements to ensure project accuracy
  • Coordinate closely with architects, engineers, inspectors, hospital facility teams, and trade partners to resolve field issues efficiently
  • Lead coordination of complex MEP systems, medical gas systems, imaging equipment requirements, and critical infrastructure integration
  • Identify constructability concerns and recommend solutions to improve safety, efficiency, quality, and project flow
  • Ensure all installations comply with healthcare codes, AHCA/FGI guidelines, Joint Commission standards, and applicable regulatory requirements

5. Procurement & Resource Management

  • Coordinate procurement and delivery of materials, equipment, temporary barriers, and specialized healthcare construction resources
  • Plan labor allocation and staffing needs for each phase of construction
  • Ensure efficient use of manpower, equipment, and project resources while maintaining strict schedule adherence
  • Coordinate shutdowns, tie-ins, inspections, and critical path activities with hospital operations teams

6. Workforce Management & Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and manage company field personnel in alignment with company policies and project expectations
  • Foster a professional, safety-focused, and collaborative work environment
  • Coordinate workforce planning, field staffing, and subcontractor performance management
  • Address workforce concerns and maintain compliance with HR, safety, and legal standards
  • Promote accountability, communication, and high-quality workmanship across all project teams

7. Subcontractor & Trade Partner Management

  • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors to ensure compliance with project schedules, quality standards, infection control protocols, and healthcare regulations
  • Conduct regular coordination meetings to maintain workflow, sequencing, and issue resolution
  • Ensure trade partners understand operational constraints associated with active healthcare environments
  • Work collaboratively with subcontractors and suppliers to proactively resolve field conflicts and maintain schedule continuity

8. Inspections, Compliance & Quality Control

  • Coordinate inspections with AHJs, hospital compliance personnel, and regulatory agencies
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable healthcare construction standards, building codes, life safety requirements, and quality expectations
  • Oversee punch list completion, quality control inspections, and final turnover processes
  • Maintain strict adherence to company quality standards and healthcare operational requirements throughout all phases of construction

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10+ years of construction experience with significant experience leading Healthcare Construction projects
  • Strong background in hospital, healthcare, medical office, surgical, clinic, or occupied renovation environments
  • Experience managing projects in active healthcare facilities with extensive coordination and operational sensitivity
  • Deep understanding of ICRA, ILSM, infection prevention protocols, and healthcare construction regulations
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare MEP systems, phasing, shutdown coordination, and critical infrastructure management
  • Experience managing large subcontractor teams and complex project schedules
  • Proficiency with scheduling and construction management software platforms including P6, Procore, Bluebeam, or similar tools
  • Excellent leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead teams in fast-paced, high-pressure healthcare construction environments

Preferred Experience

  • Ground-up hospital or patient tower construction experience
  • Experience with surgical suites, imaging centers, laboratories, and critical care facilities
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission requirements, FGI Guidelines, and healthcare regulatory standards
  • Experience with phased renovations and occupied healthcare campus projects
